I wrote the affirmations on post-its and took them everywhere with me, saying them out loud to myself.

I said them twenty or more times each, every time I felt the panic rise. I wrote them in the morning and before I went to bed, over and over until I believed them to be true.

I looked in the mirror and said them out loud, especially ‘I love and approve of myself’, finishing with ‘I am safe.’

Affirmations are helpful when they are constantly repeated because they enter the unconscious mind. Just as other beliefs we have learnt as children, they become part of our programming.

This is why it is very important what we think and say, as they become embedded in our minds and have an effect on our actions.
